A day few months ago I buried a loved one!
As I took the body down the grave with relatives, where she was put to rest, I had a moment of reconnaissance with the ultimate truth we all know and act as if we don’t know: we are here for a short life, and no matter how long it goes, it is for sure coming to an end. And when it ends, it will always seem short, and time will be compressed in a series of moments and flashes of memories!
As I stood up the grave saying prayers and supplications, it came to me how dark it is down there in the grave, and how much of a difference it is going to be in few moments to the one in the grave, as dust seals it, that his good deeds will now light up the place, or bad deeds will make it pitch-black.
Oh yes, after an appointment with what has been previously unseen, it is a nap of happy dreams for those who have lived a life of knowledge and connection to God the Merciful, and it is such a nightmare for those who have befriended the devil and oppressed their soul.
It is the moment of reckoning, where there are no more exam papers to fill, but only the answers to the questions you’ve made will show the final grade, and there is no resit for this exam!
Oh yes, the way home passes through the door to the grave, so, what have we prepared for our ultimate home?! Is it well cultivated and furnished, or such a barren wasteland?! Today, we’re either seeding trees for our Garden or setting fire to our pit!
I noticed the shroud wrappings had no pockets, only a white piece of cloth, and the bedding is dust, and the loved ones soon left and went “home”.
But truly one person today went home, and we are the ones waiting for our turn, to ride the next train. It has already taken off the day we were born, and sooner or later will arrive here, to our station!
Rest In Peace, may your grave be a piece of paradise, until we join you, home!
