Someone asked this question in a conversation and here is what I said: I can offer you what I know.
A blind person cannot understand the color of green, can he?
Can an AI character inside a game universe running on a computer even have the slightest idea of what a human user is?
Even if the AI being, hypothetically has consciousness like us, a cybernetic organism?!
Let’s call him the cyborg.
No, because to that character, materials do not make sense. His aspect of existence is an electronic world where processing power is the food, pure information is the senses, and the digital clock tick is the only sense of time.
If you pause the computer, time stops for the Cyborg, yet millions of years can pass in our world without any effect. Once you unpause, it is as if time has never stopped. The meaning of time is completely different between the game and the real world. If we are cybernetic conscious beings, we will have the same perceptions of the cyborg.
To us, the time has started when the user setup that universe and started the simulation. We cannot make any difference between a world that changed for billions of years and one that has been created all at once at a certain instant of simulation startup.
A human user can see every aspect of the game universe at once, Which is unimaginable to the cybernetic being… he can break the game rules and spawn new creatures and break causality, which we will call miracles.
We will be deceived with the impeccable resolution of the game universe and think that it is self-sustaining and full-proof causal because we are imprisoned in the same rules and cannot break them or imagine how they can be broken.
But the user can break the rules or use admin rights to spawn or change whatever he wants, while cyborgs are looking (a miracle) or while they are not looking (interventions).
The human user can also communicate messages directly into the memory of the cyborg or give one cyborg (that is special) extraordinary abilities (prophets) to receive and understand messages (revaluation).
To the cyborgs, there is nothing possible before the game started. It is the start of time. The human user is timeless to them. To him, computer time is totally meaningless. He can roll the game forward and see all actions in fast-forward speed and roll it back again to the same point without the cyborgs even knowing what hit them. To him, the past, present, and future of the game and everything in it is the same.
Whatever the cyborgs do or say cannot affect him, but he is patient. If all of them disbelieve in him, he loses nothing.
He can create for them a totally new universe, for the righteous ones to enjoy a life where there is no collection of resources and no need to work hard or compete over anything. A world where the game will not have an ending. Where there is always Joy and happiness, and he can communicate with each of them individually.
So, is God like this, and we like that. No, but it can help explain the point. Do not try to judge God from your limited perspective. God is beyond our comprehension. Marvel on His greatness through His marvelous creation! I hope that helps.
