#13 Guilt!

Maybe guilt is one of the most important features of our humanity. Because guilt is what drives us back to repent, and when we decide to repent, it is the way to get out of the circle of sin and start a new blank bright white page.

Many of us however do not understand guilt the right way. They consider it a way of torture and miss the whole point behind it.

Guilt is like the pain that we feel when we are wounded, or the ache that we feel in our stomach when we are food-poisoned, or the headache we feel in our head when our blood pressure is high. Without this pain, that makes us take actions to cure the cause, the wound or the poison or the high blood pressure can cause severe damage or even kill us altogether.

When our body gets ill, we have pain, and our pain makes us go to the doctor to seek the medicine.
And when our soul is tired from our sins, we have the feeling of guilt, and guilt makes us go to the one who can cure it, and the only one who can do so is God, our Creator, the Most Merciful, the one who accepts repentance, erases sins and opens a new page whenever we go to Him in repentance.

Living with guilt is a horrible way to live, it makes us feel hollow from the inside and life has no taste or smell!
The worst kind of guilt is when we have been or are continuing to be unjust or oppressive to another human being. or even worse, to a loved one, parents, a brother, a sister, our children, a husband, or a wife.

But what is the way out of guilt? Escaping to more and more sins to try desperately to fill the hollow feeling inside, or drowning ourselves in distractions of life to take it out of our consciousness? No, it is not possible, because even when it gets out of our conscious, it will sink into our subconscious and cause us even greater pain, and will eventually lead to depression.

The solution to guilt is five things:

  1. Stop doing the sins.
  2. Take necessary actions to fix what you have spoilt.
  3. Do not talk about it to anyone who does not already know about it.
  4. Remember every time that you have done the sin and repent of each individual count.
  5. Open a new page in your life, and start again.

I wish myself and all of you a new start, and guilt-free life.

Have a great day. May Allah bless your month.
